Dear Parents, The staff is gearing up for very busy months ahead. Directly ahead of us in this month is Valentine's Day. These classroom celebrations will be followed by preschool registration information sent home in buckets at the end of the month. The Preschool Finance Committee usually meets this month to address next year’s preschool budget. However, as 2010-2011 registration numbers figure prominently in our calculations, I suspect the lion’s share of this preparation will take place after registration is completed in March. I am certain we will be looking closely at how we can keep tuition cost down, balancing this against our not having raised tuition expense in the past three years, and looking at projected numbers for the current year. The good news??? We have just this past week enrolled 3 new students, two in our 3-day program and one in our 2-day program – leaving us with six openings in the 2-day program, one opening in the 3-day program and one opening in the 5-day program. We have also started to see an increase in the number phone calls interested in registration for next fall. Maybe we are seeing the beginnings of an upward swing?!
Also, in this month is a “vacation.” Traditionally, CPP tries to follow as closely as possible the SJUSD school year and that schedule includes a vacation period the week of February 15th through the 19th.
Practice has begun for the annual Spring Sing celebration - songs which you will likely start hearing at home. The theme for this year’s Spring Sing is
We’re Going To The Zoo! If you should decide to help your child practice these new songs at home, please give me until the last week of the month to have all the words together in a packet, available in the preschool office (with a $1.00 donation to offset printing cost.)
Speaking of the Spring Sing - this is our BIG fundraiser each year. In past years proceeds have been used to obtain playground equipment and help with the purchase of air conditioning in our classrooms. We have painted our classrooms, replaced the aged wooden benches in our play yard, as well as classroom tables that had been in use since the school's inception. We added to our inventory of tricycles and scooters - not those available at Toys 'r Us - but heavy-duty, long-lasting vehicles that can withstand years of use and are costly. Last summer we took a big step and had the play yard grass replaced with artificial turf! A significant expense that has already paid off handsomely with increased access to the play yard on “not such good weather” days! The CPP Parent Committee has been busy planning for this event to be held April 22nd and lots more information will be coming home in buckets soon!. If you should have any questions about how you can help with the day of the event, obtaining donations, or donating something yourself - please don't hesitate to stop by the Preschool office to get contact information. Valentine Parties February 11th and 12th
Each class will be celebrating this special day with "heart-filled” activities and snack-time party. Your child's teacher will be posting a sign-up sheet for party goodies and supplies. Each child is invited to bring valentine cards to exchange with their classmates. Please help your child write their own name on the back, but PLEASE check with your child's teacher about names on the front. Our younger friends get frustrated and confused trying to match up bags and the names without help - this is a great independence activity. If you are unsure about the number of cards to send, please talk to your child's teacher. 2010 - 2011 Registration
Fall registration is fast approaching. CPP will begin registration on Monday, March 8th. Currently enrolled students are not automatically enrolled for the following year. Please note the following enrollment schedule and the dates of each group's priority. Enrollment applications are accepted between the hours of 8:30 am and 12:30 pm each day.
* Priority 1 Returning students. Monday, March 8th through Thursday, March 11th. Returning students lose their priority status after March 11th.
* Priority 2 Siblings and Church member's children and grandchildren. Monday, March 15th through Thursday, March, 18th. Siblings and church members lose their priority status after March 18th.
* Priority 3 New student, waiting list. Friday, March 19th ONLY.

SCHOLASTIC Book Orders
Scholastic book orders will be due by Friday, February 12th at noon. All orders are placed by going on-line to Scholastic.com. Please enter our Class Name: CarmPresPreschool and Password: BookOrders to view the book clubs for the month of February and place your orders. For each parent who places an order online, the preschool is gifted one free book choice! |
