Text Box: Dear Parents,

It’s hearts, flowers, and chocolate month! (I can make a case for every month being chocolate month!)
Brrrrrrr….. It’s cold outside! So cold we came in to work on a Monday and found a burst water pipe in the play yard! (Just in case you spotted the caution tape and wondered!)

The phone has been ringing steadily with families looking for placement for both this year and next fall. Without exception, all calls received have come as a result of recommendations by former and current families. This is great news! As the Parent Committee and preschool staff start the process of planning next year the outlook is improved over last year at this time. This month decisions will be made about programs offered and tuition for the 2012/2013 school year and I’m feeling very optimistic! Toward the end of February you will receive information in children’s buckets about registration that will commence March 5th. That same information is available on our website (carmichaelpresbyterianpreschool.com) right now - the link is on our home page.

Practice has begun for the annual Spring Sing celebration (April 19) and hopefully you’ll start hearing some very familiar tunes from our preschool friends, Sesame Street’s Muppets! The theme for this year’s Spring Sing is MUPPET MANIA and we’ve been having a great time choosing songs and working on decorations! Songbooks with all the songs and words should be available in the preschool office starting the week of February 6 and are available for a $1.00 printing fee. As we get closer to the Spring Sing you will start receiving more information, about how you can help and participate, in buckets and through emails. Preschool parent Jennie McCarl is in charge of the Silent Auction and Raffle and has been coming up with some new great ideas! Just a hint...raffling May 2012 Free Tuition! Is that a cool idea or what!

The preschool purchased a great new piece of equipment in January, a Cricut Expression 2 and the staff is looking forward to learning all the nifty applications. Already I am grateful to many of our preschool parents for their expertise in getting started on that learning curve! There has been one minor disappointment. We have learned that the preschool staple - construction paper - is simply too “thready” to work with this machine. We will now be on the lookout for bargains on white and colored card stock as well as scrapbooking paper! If you have either you would like to clear out, we’d be pleased as punch to put it to use! All donations welcomed!!! While I am on the topic of donations, the response to our requests has been fantastic and we all so appreciate your generosity! I am hearing rumblings that our supply of buttons needs some bright colors - just in case you have a handful of those sitting around...

Last, I want to share with you a recent conversation overheard…
		Child 1 - “I have a little chest cold.” Child 2 - “I have a little armpit cold.”
													Don’t you love it!?
									Love,
									     Diana West
Text Box: Valentine Parties
February 13th & 14th

Your child's teacher will be posting a sign-up sheet for party goodies and supplies. Each child is invited to bring valentine cards to exchange with their classmates. Please help your child write their own name on the back, but PLEASE check with your child's teacher about names on the front. This is a great independence activity and our younger friends get frustrated and confused trying to match up bags and the names without help. If you are unsure about the number of cards to send, please talk to your child's teacher.

Spring Sing
Thursday, April 19th

The children will present a singing performance in the Church which will be sure to delight parents, grandparents, friends and neighbors! After the show, please join us in McMillen Hall for our family-style dinner. Don’t forget to buy raffle tickets and visit the Silent Auction in the Gathering Place. You could go home with something wonderful, like a month of FREE preschool tuition, Sacramento Music Festival passes or a great dinner out!

While this is first and foremost meant to be a special evening to enjoy with your family, Spring Sing is also CPP’s primary fundraiser for the school year. In the past, proceeds of this evening have paid for the school’s air conditioning, new paint, carpeting, dramatic play centers, bulletin boards, manipulatives and bicycles - almost everything that is not consumable – even the play structures and artificial turf in our play yard. Now, we’re saving up for the construction of a new bike barn in our play yard. In short, the proceeds from this evening directly impact your child’s experience at our preschool.

So, WE NEED YOUR HELP!

Each year we solicit donations for a silent auction and raffle from local businesses. We ask our parents to assist with this by making simple requests of the businesses you normally come in contact with. This could be your hairdresser, dry cleaner, car wash, hole-in-the-wall coffee haven, gardening center, or specialty gift shop - any place you frequent. The preschool office has donation request letters that you can use when making these requests.

Each class traditionally puts together a gift basket of items centered upon a theme. Be creative! You could make a “summer fun” basket with water toys and beach towels, a “rainy day” basket with craft supplies and storybooks, a chocolate basket (a personal favorite!)…the list goes on and on. Your child’s Room Mom will be reaching out to you for ideas and contributions in the next few weeks.

We hope you will join us for this fun and special evening. Watch your child’s bucket for more information – dinner and raffle tickets must be purchased in advance. Contact Silent Auction and Raffle chairperson Jennie McCarl at 483-6623 to let us know how you can help!

(Please note that while this is our primary fundraising function for the school year,
families are under no obligation to purchase tickets if they should wish to forego the dinner or raffle.)
